Tori Denae Townley - Born: March 10, 1994

How long have you attended St. John? 9 years
If you could go back to one grade, which one and why? It would probably be my sophomore year because that's when I made my best grades. I wasn't really pressured by anything like junior and senior year and it was just nice being in the middle of my high school career.
What is your favorite St. John memory? I can't narrow down one single memory after being here for 9 years. All the sports I played left memories as well as the 5th grade trip to Virginia and the 8th grade trip to the keys. Also, everyday I spent with some of the best friends I'll ever have, Cassie, Sudie, Ryan, Josh, Kelsey, and everyone else that has been there.
Who is your favorite teacher or class and why? My favorite teacher I've ever had is Mr. Fischer. I loved class with him in 5th grade; he is an awesome teacher!
What are your future plans or "next step"? I plan to go to school and become the best that I can possibly be in whatever I choose to do for a career.
How has St. John prepared you for the "next step"? St. John has helped shape me into the person I am today. Even though I'm not 100% sure what I want to be, I do know that when I figure that out, I'll be more than prepared.
What is your dream occupation? My dream occupation is to be a manager for a famous country singer and travel with them because two of my passions are traveling and country music.
What is an embarrassing moment? In my junior year, a boy asked me to do a burnout and I looked over at Cassie and said, "How do you do a burnout?!" While attempting my burnout, I nearly hit a stop sign but I did get a little squeal out of my truck!
What is a funny fact? By senior year, my best friend, Sudie, ran into the back of my truck and totaled her car. Not even a week after that, she drove me to CVS from school and ran into a yellow pole while parking.
What is your favorite quote or memory verse? "For everything you have missed, you have gained something else; and for everything you gain, you lose something else. It is about your outlook towards life. You can either regret or rejoice."
Who is someone that inspires you? My mom and dad are my inspiration because everything they do they do for others. They've taught me that God and family are the most important things and they have encouraged me to get a good education.
What are your favorite hobbies or sports? I enjoy doing stuff outside like fishing, mudding, riding four wheelers, and being at the lake or beach. I also love softball and volleyball.

Seussical Saints

All the Seussical Saints gather in the gym to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday.

The bulletin board is covered in Seussical drawings representing "St. John I Am!"

Kindergarten students show their love for their favorite Seuss character!
Seussical Saints
Saint and Seuss spirit oozed through, as today our Saints went big and blue
Horton heard a who, and of course sweet Cindy Lou too
Elementary students dressed up as Thing One and Thing Two
Our Seussical Saints had lots of things to do
The Lorax sent the kids a fax
It was a day of fun to the max
Fourth grade made truffala trees with leaves
There were many exciting activites that you wouldn't believe
There was lots of green eggs and ham
St. John I Am ate them in a tram with a ram
There was so much excitment that showed through
Well...we'll just have to show you

12:2 Crew

By Lorena Walker
The "12:2 Crew" is a high school boys' bible study that meets on Friday mornings. Mr. Andrew Kaley, the bible study leader and St. John high school math teacher, initiated 12:2 Crew because he feels that since he was a student at St. John he has a unique perspective with the students. He knows how it feels to be a St. John student and have a close relationship with Jesus. Mr. Kaley's heart is in helping to build the boys' relationship with Jesus and to study God's word. When asked why the bible study is boys only, he replied that there are certain things that are better to be covered in a "boys only" environment. Mr. Kaley feels that it’s a good way to encourage the guys to open up about their thoughts without trying to impress girls, but he thinks it would be wonderful to have a girls' bible study as well. The significance of having it on Fridays is that at the end of the week, the students just want to get out of school for the weekend. Having a bible study on Friday starts off their weekend in a positive way. There are about ten to fifteen students every week. The morning starts off with a prayer by Mr. Kaley and goodies such as donuts, juice, and milk. In the 12:2 Crew, the focus is on comparing the worldview on the way to live versus how the bible tells us to live. The 12:2 crew is based on the bible verse Roman 12:2, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will." Some recent topics were forgiveness, money, and speech. The bible study ends with a prayer said by a student. If you're a boy in high school and would like to join the 12:2 crew, talk to Mr. Kaley; new students are always welcome!

A Glance into Advanced Placement European History

Daniel, Madison, Tyler, Lorena, Brooke, Eric, Erik, Alexis and Elizabeth
The first advanced course for  high school students to enroll in is Advanced Placement European History. Their guide for this first exploration of European History is Mrs. Janousky, our AP extraordinaire. She teaches freshman English, AP European History, AP United States History, AP Language, AP Government, and Economics. Mrs. Janousky has a special place in her heart for her AP European History students.
Mrs. Janousky
The course focuses on two periods: the period from 1450 to the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic era, and the period from the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic era to the present. Every night, a section of course information is assigned. The next day, students will be quizzed on the information. It is a quick paced course that must stay up to college standards. While the class started out with seventeen students, it has dropped down to nine brave students. They are so proud of the work they have accomplished as the end of the year is near. The students can be spotted around campus sporting their AP European History Survivor Shirts.

Tyler, Madison, Lorena, Alexis, Mrs. Janousky, Elizabeth, Daniel, Brooke, Eric and Erik
While this course is advanced, students also enjoy projects that put them in the past. AP European History experienced a blast from the past. After studying famous and infamous figureheads, they transformed into these historical figures. They visited the salon of Mrs. Janousky and dressed up and feasted on European cuisine.

There are so many exciting events going in this classroom it just had to be shared! Click below to get another peak into the life of our AP European History students.
